Stay Focused on the Facts (Not Politics)

I have to weigh in on what’s going on with the election. Probably by the time you read this, we will know who the President will be. But right now, I have clients that are panicking about how the election uncertainty is going to affect them. I want to remind them and you that life will go on and the market will go on.

No matter who the President is, you still have a responsibility to be calm with your clients and take care of their needs and concerns. I strongly encourage you to get through this period with grace and understanding. Some of your clients will be concerned, and some may be unhappy about whoever gets chosen. Clients may also call you and ask “now that this person is elected/re-elected, is now a good time to buy or sell?” They are going to come to you for that advice.

This is the time that you need to be strong and stick with the facts. The real estate market is not just about who the President is. It’s about local conditions and inventory. Especially in Washington state, it is incredibly low in many areas. I know other areas and states are experiencing the same inventory shortage.

Always go back to the facts and stick to them. Help your clients understand that buying and selling real estate is a decision that needs to be based on statistics, not what is happening with politics. So be ready to receive that call from a concerned client, because there will be people who are happy about the election results, and people who are not happy. Just do your best to provide the facts you have access to.

Don’t be something you’re not. Stick to your area of expertise, which is real estate, not politics.
